This work was created by Takatoku for a competition organized by Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi and Tokyo University of the Arts, with the theme of new souvenirs. In today's world, where most items can be purchased online, the question arises: what do people truly seek in a souvenir? Instead of a physical object, he considered the possibility of creating a souvenir that revolves around an experience or action. He focused on "photography" and the phenomenon of the "afterimage effect." The afterimage effect occurs when an image of light lingers in the eye, creating the sensation of floating in space. By utilizing this effect, combined with photographs, he envisioned a way to simulate the experience of travel. Photography is a universal part of traveling, and through this concept, he aimed to create a souvenir that fosters conversations and shared experiences between people, extending the joy of travel beyond the moment itself.
