MINAMO mirror was created for the "Ueno Cultural Park TOKYO SUKI FES" in 2016 and 2017 as a light installation that reflects the aesthetics of mitate, a metaphorical technique often found in Japanese art. Takatoku focused on the reflections of city lights on the surface of Shinobazu Pond, creating a serene atmosphere in contrast to the bustling daytime environment. Blue LED lights floated on the water's surface, emphasizing the ripples and generating a constantly evolving visual experience. These lights, together with changes in weather and time, created a dynamic interaction between reality and its reflection, evoking the beauty of a traditional Japanese garden. Additionally, three floating islands in the middle of the pond were expressed through the interplay of light and shadow, further enhancing the connection to the aesthetic of traditional Japanese gardens. This project marked the beginning of Takatoku’s involvement with the Tokyo University of the Arts lab, eventually leading to the establishment of the Spatial Presentation Lab.
